World from a different angle

Sister of the bride

Yes yes yes, after a hectic month or so of preperation, yestaerday was my sister's wedding! You can't imagine how fun it was! It was like a dream, I was looking at my sister unable to believe that she is actually a brideand getting married! The most impressive part was seeing my parents getting extremely emotionalabout it, my mother CRIED HER EYES OFF when my sister first came out of the room in the bridal gown, it took a lot of time and effort to calmher down... My father was no less emotional, you should see his eyes when he woke upthis morning. My sister, on the other hand, was a hyper active bride :D She didn't get emotional till the end of the wedding...

Moreover, I truelly enjoyed being "the sister of the bride"... Every time one of my cousins tries to tease me I go like: "Hey! you can't talk to me like that! I am the sister ofthe bride!"... It felt best when we were telling one of the hotel workers to do something about the flowers boquets, he said he couldn't change their places becaue the people who brought them might not like it, so I said: "If they asked, tell them the bride's sister told you to move them, I'll take the responsibility for that!" Yeah it felt good :D

Shaden also was there... she stayed till the end and slept over at my house! I told you it was fun...

We all had fun! everyone had fun, but the one who got really crazy was my brother :D They told him to dance and not be shy, and he really didn't need that kind of invitation... from dancing to jumping and waving his neck tie :D

3ogbalko ya jama3ah :D I mean 3ogbal ma tkoono bride's sister or brother :p

Silwan...

I don’t know if I ever mentioned that I’m originally from a town in Jerusalem called Silwan. Silwan was previously a suburb ofJerusalem, but it was announced as a part of Jersalem in 1963. Silwan is the closest village to the Aqsa Mosque…

There’s a water spring in Silwan “Ain Silwan” that my father says it tastes just like ZamZam water “The blessed water spring in the Holy Shrine in Mecca”. My mother said that she once saw a documentary in which they said that Ain Silwan is an extension of Ain ZamZam, or they are related in some way…

Here is some information I found on the net…

You know what? Writing this gave me such a great joy! It’s always nice to pride yourself on your hometown…

On judging people

In my first year at college, there was that girl who had that boyfriend and they were kind of showing affection publicly to such an excessive extent, in other words: makhdeen ra7et.hom... Once a friend of mine asked me soemthing about that girl, saying that her behaviour is so unacceptable, I said that I don't know the girl and didn't comment much on the behaviour itself...

Later on,in my fourth year, I became friends with that girl and got to know her better... I discovered that she's a very nice well-mannered girl, she's even religious though it doesn't show fromm the way she dresses... Not to mention that she had already broken up with that boyfriend and she no longer hanged around with him.

Now, my point is: Who are we to judge? As for me I learned not to talk about people, even when seeing them doing something wrong with my own eyes, for two simple reasons: 1) this is useless gossip and 2) people do chage... Actually those people might be better than ourselves and we don't know it. We also may change, we could become so bad ourselves... and no matter how bad we may become we can't bear it when someone judges us...

Moreover, I think we can do many other useful things with our time than spending it talking about people, actually it seems to me that those who spend time talking about other people are those who don't have many other things to talk about...

Just a piece of advice: Put yourself in the other person's shoes, and remember than you can not judge a book by its cover!

Let's talk numbers!

Another hilarious episode of Abu Mahjoob daily show! As in his cartoons, Hajjaj tries to reflect the daily concerns of the ordinary Jordanian citizen, in a less-than-five-minutes animation of ironic, sarcastic, scathy yet hopefully constructive criticism... I can't say I liked all the episodes, or got the point all the time, but it's obvious that the people at Mahjoob creative production company are putting a serious effort on this and they are trying to deliver a message...

This is one of the episodes I really liked, it reflects the confusion over the statistics published in the Jordanain outlets, their impact on the ordinary citizen and the contrast between them and realty... Enjoy!

Let me be myself...

So it didn't work! I said I didn't wanna do that, I said it's not me, it makes me feel totally out of my element and it just rubs me the wrong wrong wrong way!

Well, I tried to avoid the whole thing! I'm not sayign it's wrong, it's good it's fine, but, me? Naaaah! Not the kid...

So, they just kept pushing and pushing, and you know, I had to succumb to the nooooooooooooooorm

Anyways, the advantage I gained now is that I got to draw the line: This is the first and the last time I do this, in sha'a Allah... I felt aweful! have some compassion for my poor nerves (that was Jane Austen) Please don't cause me to implode, explode or just do something... ill-advised to say the least!

Hummm, that was a relief! even if no one's gotta a clue what on earth I'm rambling about!

On violence against children

I laid my hand upon soem "interesting" statistics...

Almost 53,000 children aged 0-17 years died in 2002 as a result of homicide, according to WHO (World Health Organization)

Boys face a greater risk of physical violence than girls; girls face a greater risk of sexual violence, neglect and prostitution

Of the estimated 218 million child labourers in 2004, 126 million were engaged in hazardous work, acoording to ILO (International labour organization) in 2006

A 2002 World Bank study found that 22% of adolescent girls reported being victims of sexual abuse in educational settings in Ecuador

In a Romanian national study of 13-14 olds, 9% of the children reported that they had been sexually violated in the family and 1% reported that they had been raped by a family member

So, the world is becoming a safer place for children, or is it?

King Abdullah in Star trek?

LOL!! What in the world is that?!

You know how great it feels when you go to work, wishing wholeheartedly that you wouldn't have to, and when you arrive they tell you: You can go home whenever you finish what you're working on, there's no work and employees are to stay home till further notice... Oh my God! this felt better than waking up in the middle of the night to find that it's not time to get up yet! I'm guessing it's even better that having Gerard's Nutella crepes after Iftar... Now I'm just waiting for my salary to be deposited in my account, so far this morning there hasn't been anything yet, and HSBC phone bamking sucks... wonder what's holding them up!
